Asia Society at the Movies: Coup 53
April 4, 2022 — Columbia University professor Hamid Dabashi talks to film director Taghi Amirani and film editor Walter Murch about the making of Coup 53, a documentary film about the 1953 Iranian coup d'état that overthrew democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. The acclaimed filmmakers shared how they pieced together a wealth of information, including never-before-seen archive footage and documents, that breathed life into their historical documentary and made it into an explosive revelation. The film is presented as part of So You Think You Know Iran, a six-film series presented throughout April, featuring documentaries from Iran that invite audiences to discover a lesser-known view of the country.
