The Light Surgeons Present 'SuperEverything*'
VIEW EVENT DETAILSPartnerships & Collaborations
SuperEverything* is an audiovisual performance depicting the complex relationship between identity, ritual, and place across the landscape of Malaysia. With multiple projections, The Light Surgeons use the genre of live cinema to layer stunning documentary footage and motion graphics with an original electronic musical score performed by Malaysian-based musician and composer Ng Chor Guan. Filmed on location across Peninsular Malaysia, SuperEverything* weaves together numerous documentary narratives to create a kaleidoscopic portrait of this diverse cultural landscape.
SuperEverything* is co-presented by Asia Society Texas Center, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the 2012 Houston Cinema Arts Festival.
About The Light Surgeons
London-based group The Light Surgeons specializes in creative content for live performance, video production, and installation based projects. Founded in 1995 by artist and filmmaker Christopher Thomas Allen, The Light Surgeons are an established creative studio on the world stage, helping to develop new forms of cross-disciplinary practice in various creative areas. The British Council-commissioned SuperEverything* kicks off a Mitchell Center for the Arts residency by The Light Surgeons, who will develop a new work in Houston in the coming months.
About Ng Chor Guan
Ng Chor Guan is an invigorating music composer and sound designer for theatre, dance, film, concert music, and new media. His masterful work with the theremin—one of the earliest electronic musical instruments controlled without physical contact from the player—generates eye-raising tones that range from raw and electronic to warm and voice-like.
In 2008, Ng's music for films was awarded grand prizes at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival in France and Art Film Fest in the Slovak Republic. In 2010, his work was nominated for a Best Musical Composition at the first Selangor Youth Awards, and in 2011 he received the German Language Scholarship from the Goethe Institute.
