Family Day: Japanese Sports Day
VIEW EVENT DETAILSIn collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Houston and the Health Museum
Celebrate Health and Sports Day, a national holiday in Japan commemorating the 1964 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo!
After the 1964 Olympics, Sports Day became an annual holiday in Japan to encourage physical and mental health through an active lifestyle. As a result, Japanese sports culture expanded, and today many schools and businesses hold sports festivals to celebrate the holiday.
Join Asia Society for our own Sports Day as the building is transformed into a fieldhouse. Learn about the sports culture of Japan, play games, visit the 2020 Tokyo Olympic booth, make Japanese sports signs and kites, learn traditional folk dances, and enjoy Japanese food!
Recommended for ages 5 and up.
