And if the past year is a yardstick, cracks within governance systems of most large nations were clear. What are the hallmarks of a progressive governance system? Does political leadership today prioritize rhetoric and self-aggrandizement over the fundamental duties of governance? Do the answers to successful governance lie in Asia? What is the role and importance of international and intergovernmental organizations in confronting crucial challenges like public health, economic growth, and climate change?

As the attacks continue, what can be done to defeat the scourge at the local and national levels? Within the business community? Law enforcement? Or in the halls of Congress? In short, what can all Americans to do ensure we are not still having this conversation a year from now?

Video: Gender Equality in Japan Post-Abe

ASIA SOCIETY NEW YORK, March 30, 2021 — When Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won a landslide victory in 2012, he outlined his economic priorities dubbed "Abenomics," with one of the three pillars focusing on the improvement of gender equality in Japan. "Womenomics" sought to empower Japanese women by facilitating a better working environment for women and enabling them to balance work and family life. Nearly a decade later, the results have been mixed, and few would argue that there is much to be done.

A conversation with ITOCHU International President and CEO Claire Chino, Gojo & Company's Royanne Doi, former Chief Financial Officer and Chief International Business Officer for AEON Shinya Wako, and Squire Patton Boggs Partner Rika Beppu on recommendations for both Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's government and the private sector — especially as women are affected disproportionately from economic effects from the COVID-19 pandemic.

ASIA SOCIETY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, March 23, 2021 — After four years of the "America First" trade framework of the Trump administration, defined by bilateral deals and the trade war with China, what will the global trade and economic landscape look like under the direction of newly inaugurated President Joe Biden and his economic team? While in the early days of Biden's presidency the focus will be on domestic economic policy, enacting programs to boost a struggling U.S. economy reckoning with COVID-19's impact, there are a host of economic issues abroad to consider, from China's continued ascendance to working with Europe in the aftermath of Brexit.
