For Izzy tells the story of retired divorcee Anna and her lesbian daughter Dede, who is struggling with addiction, as they move next door to lonely widowed father Peter and his autistic adult daughter Laura.
Dede, an unemployed photojournalist, is getting over a broken engagement. She wants to prove to her mother Anna and herself that she can be responsible, but still struggles with addiction. Laura, who is a high-functioning autistic, yearns for independence from her well-intentioned, but extremely protective father. The two form an unlikely pair as Laura becomes the key to Dede's sobriety and Dede becomes Laura's window to the outside world.
Anna, a burnt out investment banker who feels cheated by time and parenthood, finds a companion in Peter, a lonely accountant whose life revolves around his only daughter Laura. Their unexpected romance brings light and energy back into their lives — a second chance. But as old demons surface, the relationships of all four people are tested.
For Izzy is a narrative feature drama filmed in a documentary format and infused with elements of magical realism. In the end, through an act of blind courage, the four overcome adversity to become a family.

The Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) premiered in the summer of 1978 in New York City answering a growing need for social understanding, cultural diversity in American life, and independent cinema. AAIFF is the first festival in the U.S. to showcase film and video work by artists of the Asian Diaspora. Forty years later, the AAIFF has grown to include films and video from more than 30 countries, a variety of topical panels and workshops, industry mixers, staged readings, exclusive interviews, receptions and more.
