President Trump and Asia
VIEW EVENT DETAILSThe Obama administration formulated a foreign policy vision that called for a crucial U.S. role in Asia to ensure the region’s stability, growth, and prosperity. Known as the “rebalance to Asia” programme, the policy involved collaborated efforts to enhance U.S. defense, diplomatic, and economic ties with the Asia-Pacific. Donald Trump’s comments since winning the U.S. presidential election in November offer some insight into the kind of Asia policy his administration may pursue after taking office later this month. On the one hand Trump has spoken about great partnerships and forming trade agreements, but also discontinuing associations. Some of the president-elect’s proposed policies have resonance with Asian nations that take a more protectionist approach on the use of military influence and economic statecraft. Join Kevin Rudd and Aisha De Sequeira for a conversation as they discuss what the Trump Presidency might mean for Asia.
