In August, Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) will be holding Contemporary Portrait: Natural Light & Artificial Light Workshop, a photography workshop with Photographer Jeeyun Kim.
If you are interested in refining your portrait photography skills, want to be introduced to the techniques, or simply looking to spend time on a summer day - this workshop is perfect for you. In this workshop, you will learn an overview of portrait photography as an art form in historical, modern, and contemporary contexts, as well as an appreciation for portraits by Hedda Morrison, a photographer featured in our current exhibition "Recovery, Resilience, Resurgence".
Portrait with Natural Light will cover lighting techniques to improve portraits. With natural light, participants will learn how to "see" the direction and quality of the light and then place their subjects to create flattering or effective feelings. Participants will use light reflectors (provided by the instructor) and window light.
Portrait with Artificial Light will introduce lighting techniques. Rembrandt lighting, for example, will be covered with the emphasis on understanding the direction, quality and depth of lighting.
Please note that no prior lighting training is necessary, but basic knowledge of camera functions, i.e. how to adjust aperture, shutter speed and exposure on one’s own camera is needed. Participants will need to bring their own cameras.
The workshop has a maximum participant of 10 and reservations made on a first-come-first-served basis.
Spend some cozy indoor time to learn new skills and pick up a new hobby! Afterwards, you can visit the current photography exhibition "Recovery, Resilience, Resurgence" to broaden your learning.
