Gala Cocktail Reception
Registration Required
February 9, 2012 will mark the transformation of the historic Former Explosives Magazine Compound into a cultural and educational hub by Asia Society Hong Kong Center. We want to share this proud moment with you as a member. Come join us for the fundraising Gala Cocktail Reception to celebrate the beginning of the "Future of the Past"! To spice up the evening, we have three cross-cultural and cross-genre performances by renowned artists from the East and the West throughout the evening.
Transforming Vision: Sensational Sand Painting by Hoi Chiu
Hoi Chiu, the first and only local professional sand painting artist, will lead us on a journey of sensational sand art with his spectacular performance specially created in commemoration of the Transformation of the Former Explosives Magazine Compound from a military-use site to an intellectual and cultural hub. Hoi Chiu will paint with sand on the spot with simultaneous projection on a big screen for our clear viewing of his magical strokes that have impressed many audiences.
Transforming Voice: Multi-lingual Acapella Performance by Metro Vocal Group
Metro is an international vocal group from the United States performing across the world for the past 12 years. Eric, Kevin, Sean and Michael are supremely talented musicians composing unique arrangements of the world's most popular tunes. For this special occasion, they will present an "East meets West” collection of English, Cantonese and Mandarin pop song classics for the pleasure of our diverse audience in the outdoor rooftop garden against the backdrop of Admiralty's spectacular skyline.
Transforming Music: Erhu and Guitar Cross-over Jazz Recitals by Jessie Hou
Renowned Taiwanese erhu player Jessie Hou will give boldly innovative erhu and guitar cross-genre recitals to our audience in the unique "Old blends with New” outdoor setting at the Center's courtyard. Hou has won a number of musicianship awards, including Taiwan's huqin solo competition and the special award and performing prize in the professional section for erhu at the 1st Art Cup International Competition of Chinese Musical Instruments in Beijing. In addition to collaborating with various national orchestras, she also adapted her talent to perform electric erhu and pop music.
