Featuring works by Hong Kong’s emerging artists and musicians, young art enthusiasts and creative professionals will have the opportunity to meet and share their passion for the arts. The event will also present a conversation between Catherine Maudsley and Melissa Lee about the opportunities for young artists and emerging talents within the context of Hong Kong’s budding art scene.
Catherine Maudsley is an independent scholar with wide-ranging intellectual interests and a multifaceted career. She is an art advisor, educator, author, and speaker who was a Connaught Research Scholar at the University of Toronto, a Canada-China Scholar at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and a Commonwealth Scholar in Hong Kong. For the Friends of the Art Museum of CUHK, since the early 1980s, she has spoken on topics as diverse as 13th-century Buddhist wall paintings, the nature of creativity, and the future of ink art. Catherine has a global speaking career, works with leading art collectors, advises corporations, and manages Red Rock Studio, a private collection of Chinese ink painting and avant-garde Chinese photography. She publishes in Arts of Asia, Asian Art Newspaper, Orientations, and elsewhere.
Melissa Lee is a lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on visual arts and diasporic literature. She is a public art curator, consultant, and has worked on numerous projects in Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, and Canada. She is the founder of the "Fairytale Project," an online research archive investigating the lives and experiences of the 1001 Chinese participants who toured Kassel Germany's Documenta (2007) as part of Ai Weiwei's public art project Fairytale. She is also the interdisciplinary chair of the academic organization Association of the Arts of the Present (ASAP), bringing together recognized scholars and creative artists together to discuss the latest developments in the literary, visual and performing arts.
The event will showcase artworks by: Annysa Ng, Samson Young, Kaho Yu, Teresa Wong, Jaffa Lam, and Hung Keung
Live music performed by Jeffery Chan, Angus Lee, Charlie Yang and more.
Drinks and light refreshments will be served.
