Executive Briefing | Dang Qun, MAD Architects (Sydney)
VIEW EVENT DETAILSChina's thriving art, design and architecture practices are going global
What can Australian cities learn from MAD Architects?
At a time when economic and diplomatic relations are strained between China and the United States, Canada, Australia and many other nations, we see the exchange of art, culture and design thriving. With this in mind, Asia Society Australia is delighted to host an Executive Briefing with Dang Qun, Principal Architect at MAD Architects, China. At the helm of one of China’s best internationally known architecture firms, Dang and her contemporaries are leading the charge in taking Chinese design to the world.
The MAD design philosophy, "Shanshui City", is grounded in the concept of creating cities that respond to the emotional and spiritual needs of its residents. Drawing from nature, earth and the sky for inspiration, the shan (mountain) shui (water) practice is about inventing a new topography for modern high rise architecture.
Join us at this lunchtime briefing as we explore the "Shanshui City" philosophy and how it might apply to Australian cities and hear Qun's observations on how China's thriving art, design and architecture practices are going global.
Dang Qun's visit is supported by Create NSW and the Museum of Contemporary Art and is presented in partnership with Asia Society, UNSW Art & Design and UNSW Built Environment.
