VIEW EVENT DETAILSAsia Society Australia in partnership with Austrade and Norton Rose Fulbright are pleased to host an exclusive networking lunch and panel discussion on ‘Australia’s modern identity and what this means for Australia’s relations with Southeast Asia’.
This event aims to give attendees a more contemporary understanding of Australia’s national identity with a particular focus on the place of Southeast Asian communities in Australian society. It will cover the ways that Australia’s modern multicultural makeup creates unique opportunities to build deep ties across various fields (trade and investment, youth engagement, security and defence cooperation) with Southeast Asia.
Guests will include senior executives from prominent Australian and Southeast Asian companies and organisations. Attendees will have the opportunity to network over lunch and hear from a multidisciplinary panel including:

About our Speakers:
The Hon Anoulack Chanthivong MP, NSW Minister for Industry and Trade
After moving to Australia from Laos with his parents and brothers when he was just six, Anoulack attended Robert Townson Primary and Robert Townson High School in Raby.
Before entering Parliament, Anoulack worked as an economist for 13 years and served as a councillor and later as mayor on Campbelltown City Council.
After his election as Member for Macquarie Fields in 2015, he served as Shadow Minister for Finance and Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade between 2021 and 2022.
Following the election of the Minns Labor Government in March 2023, Anoulack was appointed Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Minister for Building and Minister for Corrections.
Dr Natalie Sambhi, Senior Policy Fellow, Asia Society Australia
Natalie Sambhi is a Senior Policy Fellow with Asia Society Australia. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of Verve Research, an independent think tank focussed on Southeast Asia, and a Non-resident Fellow with the Brookings Institution’s Foreign Policy Program. Natalie is an expert on the Indonesian military and Southeast Asian security issues.
Natalie teaches at the Australian War College and has lectured at the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (LEMHANNAS), Indonesian Defense University, and Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her writing has appeared in the National Bureau of Asian Research, Security Challenges journal, South China Morning Post, War On The Rocks, The Diplomat, The Interpreter and The National Interest.
Racheline Tantular, CEO ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership (AASYP)
Racheline Tantular serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership (AASYP). Over the last five years, she founded AASYP’s Perth Hub, conceptualised and directed the Indo-Pacific Future Leaders Programme, and executed three ASEAN-Australia Young Leaders Forums across the region.
Racheline works as a Project Manager at Lydekker (Asia consultancy and research firm), focusing on critical technologies and transnational crime. Racheline is a 2023 Young Woman to Watch in International Affairs and Melbourne Asia Game Changer.
