Since the inauguration of President Yoon Suk-Yeol, who has shown interest in improving ROK-Japan relations, we have seen signs of positive change in one of the most difficult bilateral relations in the region. What is the current state of the relationship, and what are the possible paths forward? How will this positive turn affect US-ROK-Japan trilateral relations?

Speaker Bio

Junya Nishino
Professor, Faculty of Law, Keio University

Junya Nishino is a professor at the Faculty of Law, Keio University. He also serves as Director of the Center for Contemporary Korean Studies at Keio University. He previously served as a special analyst in the Intelligence and Analysis Service of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a special assistant at the Japanese Embassy in Seoul. He was a Japan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and visiting scholar at George Washington University and Harvard-Yenching Institute. His research focuses on contemporary Korean politics, international relations in East Asia, and Japan-Korea relations. Keio University, B.A and M.A; Yonsei University Ph.D.
