U.S. at a 'Bureaucratic Disadvantage' for Trump-Kim Summit
Lindsey Ford on MSNBC
On April 18, 2018, ASPI Director of Political-Security Affairs Lindsey Ford spoke on MSNBC with Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle about the challenges facing the Trump administration as it prepares for a potential summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and growing tensions with Russia.
Ford expresses support of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to send C.I.A. Director Mike Pompeo to meet with North Korean officials to plan the summit, saying, “who else were you going to send?“ Ford adds that given the “massive turnover at the NSC” and in the administration at large, the White House is at a “bureaucratic disadvantage… with the summit coming up closely.”
Ford emphasizes that President Trump needs senior officials “who can speak with authority for this administration” and are “moving the train forward.”
