Opening of Ai Weiwei 'Circle of Animals' Outdoor Installation Postponed
The unveling of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei's Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads outdoor installation at Central Park's Grand Army Plaza in New York City was postponed today due to a change in Mayor Bloomberg's schedule after the death of Osama bin Laden.
Art Info reached the office of the Mayor, who was meant to have attended the unveling of the sculptures this morning, to confirm this development and that the launch is expected to happen later in the week.
NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday ran a nicely done story yesterday on Ai Weiwei, the project and his continued detention. The story was done by Laura Sydell, who interviewed Asia Society Museum Director Melissa Chiu for the piece. You can listen to NPR's feature here.
Above is a photo taken this morning of the sculptures, still under wraps.
