Our upcoming AsiaConnect briefing will feature Robert Wang and Christopher Smart discussing the President’s participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting in Beijing. Dr. Wang and Mr. Smart will share their views on the key takeaways from the November 10-11 APEC summit, where President Obama engaged with 20 major Asia-Pacific economies.
Robert Wang is a career Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State. Dr. Wang assumed the role of U.S. Senior Official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in August 2013. Previously, Dr. Wang served as Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy Beijing from January 2011 to August 2013. He was a visiting fellow with the Freeman Chair in China Studies at CSIS from September 2009 to December 2010. Dr. Wang served as deputy director of the American Institute in Taiwan from August 2006 to September 2009. He joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1984 and served abroad in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and Beijing. He earned his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Iowa.
Christopher Smart serves as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for International Economics, Trade, and Investment for the National Security Council.
