Dr. David Gere will use examples from around the world to illustrate how all art forms ranging from films and photography to puppetry and sculpture can be channeled to inform, educate, and raise awareness about important social and health issues. He will question the notion of purely aesthetic art and argue that artists should abandon the notion of themselves merely as fund-raisers and instead come to see themselves as true activists.

Jnanpith Award-winner Girish Karnad is an internationally renowned playwright, filmmaker, actor, cultural administrator, and a noted communicator and a person of many accomplishments and interests.
