Past Programs
Since its establishment in 1990, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center
has become the community's premier forum for public discussion of
regional and global affairs. The Hong Kong Center hosts approximately
100 programs each year, covering diverse subjects such as economics
and business, political change and development, security and defense,
environment and society, culture, and arts of Asia. Programs vary
from luncheon discussions and evening events to exhibitions, tours,
seminars, and conferences.
Hong Kong Center programs have featured many prominent speakers in
recent years, including: Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Tung
Chee Hwa; former U.S. President George Bush; former U.S. Secretaries
of Defense Henry Kissinger, Harold Brown, and William Perry; Microsoft
Chairman Bill Gates; Nicholas Negroponte, Director of the MIT Media Lab;
Chairman & CEO of Sony Corporation Nobuyuki Idei; Chairman and CEO
of Infosys Technologies Narayana Murthy; India's Minister of External
Affairs Jaswant Singh; U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East
Asian Affairs Stanley Roth; and Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid.
Membership in the Asia Society Hong Kong Center is open to all who
are interested, and includes businesspeople, professionals, diplomats,
academics, journalists, and others from Hong Kong and throughout Asia,
North and South America, and Europe. Among the benefits to members
are reciprocal privileges at other Asia Society regional centers. The Center is supported entirely by membership
dues, program fees, and contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
