Taiko Trio Kicks Off Fall Performing Arts Season
HOUSTON, September 14, 2013 — Multi-instrumentalists Shoji Kameda, Kaoru Watanabe, and Sumie Kaneko kicked off Asia Society Texas Center’s 2013-14 performing arts season with a concert seamlessly bridging East and West, old and new. Leading lights of Japanese music Kameda and Watanabe are known for infusing traditional taiko and flute with jazz and world music elements such as Central Asian throat singing. These sonic adventurers invited virtuoso koto player Kaneko to join them for the program, which complemented the Texas Center’s exhibition Universe is Flux: The Art of Tawara Yūsaku, on view June 19 – September 15, 2013.
