Asia Society and Filipino Young Professionals to Host Grand Prix Kick-Off Party
HOUSTON, June 9, 2014 — On Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 6-9PM, Filipina-American Mazda Road to Indy Driver Michele Bumgarner will be the featured guest at a Grand Prix Kick-Off Party at OKRA Charity Saloon at 924 Congress, Houston, Texas 77002. The party, co-hosted by Filipino Young Professionals of Houston, will rally support for Asia Society Texas Center (ASTC), one of the non-profit finalists competing to win 100 percent of OKRA’s proceeds during the month of June 2014. If ASTC wins, July’s funds will be used to support educational programs for children and families. Admission is free to the kick-off party and food and drinks will be available for purchase.
For each drink or food item purchased, guests receive one vote they may cast during their visit for one of the four competing non-profit organizations selected by OKRA’s members. During the June 25 kick-off party, Michele will be available for autographs and photo opportunities with fans as she revs up for the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston activities that weekend.
Michele Bumgarner is the first Asian woman to race at this level of professional open-wheel motorsports. She made her debut on the Mazda Road to Indy at last year’s event and finished ninth, collecting the Hard Charger Award in the process. Michele drives the #16 Mazda Philippines Pro Mazda, easily spotted with her signature MB Butterfly covering the car.
“I’m so happy to be working with Asia Society Texas Center again,” says Michele. “I really enjoyed meeting so many terrific people at the Leo Bar event in Houston last October. It’s a first class organization and I look forward to seeing friends and making new ones at this year’s event. I appreciate their support!”
Guests will have the opportunity to win giveaways including two VIP Paddock Passes for the world-renowned Houston Grand Prix event on June 27-29, 2014, at Reliant Park. Good for the entire race weekend, the VIP passes will give one lucky winner and a guest access to behind-the-scenes trackside excitement with Michele and her crew.
ASTC is hosting a series of OKRA-related events during the month of June. Visit their website and follow them on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
