NEW YORK, March 3, 2008 - Asia Society was transformed into a colorful crossroads brimming with the sights and sounds of several diverse cultures for Spirited Away—Destination Asia, the first annual benefit for its family programming. Centered around a vibrant marketplace theme, this March extravaganza celebrated spring festivals taking place across Asia, from China and Japan to South and Southeast Asia to Iran.

Designed for families with children ranging in age from toddlers to pre-teens, Spirited Away featured live performances, arts and crafts booths, and pan-Asian cuisine. More than 400 guests turned out for activities that included everything from professional sushi-rolling and Persian calligraphy on the 8th floor to tabla-making and Mehndi in the Garden Court.
