Corporate Social Responsibility in Action: Private Sector Summit on Post-Tsunami Rehabilitation & Reconstruction

The Private Sector Summit on Post-Tsunami Reconstruction and Rehabilitation will be held on Thursday, May 12 in Washington, D.C. The summit will provide a high-level forum for corporate representatives to meet with senior officials from governments of the hardest hit countries, as well as representatives from NGOs working on reconstruction in the affected area to discuss the needs, priorities and challenges of the next phase of post-tsunami reconstruction. Target countries include India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide a forum in which senior officials from governments of the hardest hit countries and the U.S. private sector can have a focused dialogue about the needs, priorities and challenges of the coming reconstruction phase;
  • Provide a venue for corporations and other private institutions to channel already pledged, but as yet unallocated, assistance;
  • Identify vehicles for channeling such targeted assistance through a menu of credible organizations and/or projects;
  • Enable private sector representatives to highlight contributions already made, share experiences, and discuss best practices regarding the effective application of resources;
  • Maintain the momentum of international support for reconstruction and rehabilitation.
