Asia Society Tsunami Response Project
Asia Society Tsunami Response Project was established in the aftermath of the catastrophic December 26 tsunami that affected a dozen countries and devastated the lives of millions in Asia and Africa. Six months after the disaster, Asia Society remains committed to educating the public and raising awareness on the long-term challenges of reconstruction and rehabilitation at our centers in the U.S. and throughout Asia.
Asia Society Tsunami Response Project Initiatives Include:
Corporate Social Responsibility in Action: Private Sector Summit on Post-Tsunami Rehabilitation & Reconstruction
The Private Sector Summit was held on May 12, 2005 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. For more information.
Programs
Asia Society is committed to educating the public on the long-term political, economic, social, cultural and environmental effects of the tsunami on the countries of Asia, and on the future of U.S.-Asia relations. For list of programs.
Tsunami Relief and Rebuilding Fund
We have provided grants to three local non-governmental organizations in India, Sri Lanka and Thailand who are involved in long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation initiatives. In Indonesia, we have partnered with the United Nations Foundation to support a house-building project in Aceh. All donations to the NGOs were passed on in their entirety to the organizations themselves, with the Asia Society absorbing all overhead costs. We will post updates and progress reports on our website as they become available.
