it, plan it, and still are surprised by it from time to time.
Diversity is the key to garner the energy of changes to propel
our business. Diversity is more than an employment practice,
it is a different way of thinking, an approach to finding
solutions to meet changing challenges, and to protect and
enhance your bottom line.
Kicking off the third annual seminar will be Bobbie
Money of the Shell Asian Pacific Employees
Network and James D. Calaway, President
and CEO, Center for Houston’s Future discussing
“Diversity Leadership and the Bottom Line – A
Clear Connection”. A panel chaired by Ernest
Smith and Shay Williams of JP
Morgan Chase; and consisting of David Wilkins,
Dow Chemical, Winell Herron,
H-E-B Grocery Company, Terri Alexander,
Hewlett Packard; Sylvia Brooks, Houston
Area Urban League and Alexander Chae,
Gardere Wynne Sewell, L.L.P. will discuss
the topic “Transform Diversity into Business
Results”. The afternoon session will start
with Craig B. Clayton, Senior Director
and Diversity Strategist, International Institute for Diversity
Bauer College of Business of the University of Houston
who will deliver a session entitled “Diversity
Management Analytic: Numbers…Not Feelings”.
Thanks to the efforts of Rice University School of
Continuing Studies, registered participants will
be awarded certificates denoting 0.77 General CEU’s
(ten contract hours/CEU). For professionals in the Human Resource
field, the Human Resources Certification Institute has sanctioned

The 2003 Diversity Summit will host 300+
participants for a day of learning and sharing Friday,
July 18 at the Adams Mark Hotel
located at 2900 Briarpark Drive from 9:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. The goal of the Diversity Summit
is to enhance awareness, to provide attendees with a ‘tool
chest’ on how to integrate proven leadership and management
practices:
- Leverage diversity for competitive advantage domestically
and internationally.
- Create environments that allow employees to work at peak
performance and develop their full potential, a win-win-win
formula for your business, your customers and your employees.
- Examine best practices (ethics, standards of practice,
professional competencies, etc.)
- Explore changing world markets and building a workforce
to stay ahead of the changes.
- Network and share with others who have been successful
in incorporating diversity into their leadership team and
enhanced their bottom lines.
