ASIA SOCIETY LAUNCHES ASIAFOOD.ORG

Comprehensive site explores all aspects of Asian cuisine

September 2000- The Asia Society has launched www.AsiaFood.org, a fun and fascinating website on Asian food and cooking methods, history, ingredients and techniques. The site is a new component of the Asia Society's award-winning website AsiaSource (www.AsiaSource.org).

Three main sections aggregate the entire contents of the Encyclopedia of
Asian Food
, by world-renowned-expert Charmaine Solomon, into easy-to-navigate services. An illustrated "Glossary" provides information on Asian ingredients and their health benefits, culinary techniques, and equipment. Visitors can browse through over five hundred recipes in a "Recipes" section by keyword, type of dish, region, or any combination of the three. "Features" includes video cooking demonstrations, overviews of regional cuisines and articles on topics ranging from dietary culture to exotic beverages. In addition, users will find a wealth of links to Asian cooking schools around the world and other Asian food-related sites.

Funding and support for AsiaFood has been provided through a generous grant from The Freeman Foundation. Strategic consulting, application development and programming have been provided by AppNet (recently acquired by Commerce One), a major interactive marketing agency.

The Asia Society's expanding family of websites consists of AsiaSociety.org (www.asiasociety.org), for news and information about Society programs and activities; AskAsia® (www.askasia.org), the Society's innovative web service for K-12 students and educators; and AsiaSource (www.asiasource.org), a resource for timely information on cultural, economic, social and political dimensions of U.S.-Asia relations. In addition to AsiaFood.org, the Society has also recently launched AsiaBusinessToday (www.asiabusinesstoday.org), with information on U.S.-Asia economic and business affairs, as part of its AsiaSource site.

A nonprofit, nonpartisan educational institution, the Asia Society is the leading U.S. institution dedicated to fostering public understanding of Asia and communication between Americans and the peoples of Asia and the Pacific. Its headquarters are at 725 Park Avenue in New York City.
