A Culinary Tour of Asia
Manila, Philippines – Foodies flocked to The Podium from August 8-10, 2014 to experience the rich cuisine and culture of ten Asian countries at the Asian Eats food festival.
Asian Eats was kicked off last August 7, 2014. Friends of oranizers Asia Society, Pinoy Eats World, and the Podium enjoyed performances from Alyza Barro and the Korean Cultural Center Samulnori team and cocktails from the various purveyors.
Southeast Asia was well-represented during the festival. Chef Rita Binibule prepared traditional Indonesian cuisine. Meanwhile, Thai restaurant NAV, Vietnamese restaurant P.H.A.T. Pho, and Singaporean bistro Your Local stirred up taste buds with their modern & street interpretations. Inasalan sa Dalan offered a range of Filipino classics while Chef Claude Tayag’s Downtown Cafe by Bale Dutung served up some of their signature dishes.
Maharajas Kababs by Aashish Mirpuri spiced up the event with Northern Indian cuisine. Suzy Lee’s Spring by Ha Yuan offered a fresh, healthy take on Chinese comfort food classics. Festival goers were also able to sample authentic Turkish cuisine by Turkish-national Aysegul Ozden Trifyllis.
Asian Eats became a venue for many firsts. Bi Won presented Korean-Mexican street food fusion such as beef bulgogi quesadillas. Modern patiserrie Pink Wasabi launched new kashi maki flavors, while Sebastian’s Ice Cream launched five brand new Asian-inspired ice cream flavors. EDSA Beverage Design Studio completed the diverse line-up with their unique concoctions.
Guests had the opportunity to learn how to cook their own Asian “eats” through live cooking demonstrations. On Saturday, Chefs from Berjaya Hotel Makati demonstrated how to prepare Roti Canai – an Indian-influenced flatbread. On Sunday, Chef Illhami Kilic of the Turkish Embassy, prepared Manti (dumplings).
Guests also enjoyed live entertainment – performances by Indonesian singers Amalia Rachmah and Rizkya Syifa, acoustic guitarist Alyza Barro, and Kpop dance group NEO.
Asian Eats was made possible through the support of our sponsors Del Monte Philippines, SYSU International and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. ANC, Solar TV, Manila Times, SPOT.ph, WhenInManila.com and Rappler were media partners for this event.
