ASPF, Ayala Museum, & Ateneo Art Gallery Conclude Contemporary Art Lectures
Art enthusiasts new and old were treated to a month-long series on contemporary art thanks to Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, and Asia Society Philippines. WHEN CONTEMPORARY ART BECAME GLOBAL 1986-2017 was an eight-session series, focused on the way contemporary art has veered away from the dominance of New York and Western Europe after key events and exhibitions in the late eighties. The series looked at artists across the world, including Southeast Asia, tackling issues such as the creation of art for public spaces, the growing split between Biennale Art and Auction Art, and the role of art in today’s society.
Professor Tony Godfrey, author, curator, and former head of the Master’s Program in Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s Institute London, served as the lecturer. The series ran from March 7-29, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the third floor of the Ayala Museum.
