Members-Only: Surge: Contemporary Photography From Pakistan
VIEW EVENT DETAILSPakistan has long been the subject of rigorous discussion in India, from its public affairs to its people. Building on the conversation, come experience Pakistan through a different lens, as Tanvi Mishra, documentary photographer and editorial team member of PIX, guides us through the exhibition Surge: The Pakistan Issue of PIX Quarterly.
Featuring photographic works by Amber Hammad, Asef Ali Mohammed, Malcom Hutcheson and many more, Surge explores the link between art practice and documentary form in Pakistan. With an emphasis on gender and personal experience, the exhibition considers the social, cultural and historical context of Pakistan, to reveal how these experiences reflect the artist’s sense of place.
Tanvi Mishra is a documentary photographer. Trained as an economist, her background in the social sciences impacts her choices as a visual storyteller. Her work has been published in Der Spiegel, Le Figaro, The Sunday Guardian and Tehelka to name a few. Using her experiences as a practitioner of the medium, Tanvi is also interested in looking at photo-editorial and curatorial aspects of photography from that perspective. She was also part of the team for the Delhi Photo Festival in the 2013 edition.
