As an economic heavyweight, China is fast realizing its role in the luxury market. Chinese consumers account for more than a third of the global luxury market today, and half, if not more, in a decade’s time. As China’s big spenders become increasingly mobile, this is impacting key retail markets. “The Bling Dynasty” provides insights into how doubts about Chinese luxury consumption are ill-founded and Chinese demand is on the cusp of becoming dominant. Through interviews with brand executives, retailers, experts and consumers, each chapter brings a different perspective covering complex aspects of luxury consumption, with illustrations and real-world examples that support the research. How have Western brands developed in Asia and what are the challenges they face? Why are Chinese purchasing luxury abroad and what implications are for the industry’s future? Why are there are no Chinese luxury brands challenging Western models? Why are Chinese consumers becoming similar to their American peers?
