Multimedia: Opera Singers 'Made in China' Bring New Voices to World Stage
NEW YORK, June 19, 2014 — For the latest program in Asia Society's Viewpoints series, soprano Ying Huang, baritone Yunpeng Wang, and pianist Siyi Fang joined music critic Ken Smith for an exploration of China's growing presence on the international opera stage.
The panel discussion was supplemented by film clips and live performances, including Yunpeng Wang's stirring rendition of "Nemico della Patria," from Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chénier, which brought the sold-out auditorium to its feet (video clip, below).
Viewpoints is an annual series featuring prominent, visionary figures in the creative arts and is made possible by the generous support of Aashish and Dinyar S. Devitre.
