South China Sea Conference: Panel Discussions Day 1
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAsia: Beyond the Headlines
Complete Conference Overview (including complete videos)
Territorial disputes over the South China Sea have existed since the end of the World War II. In recent years, however, China's rapid rise coupled with its increasing assertiveness over the South China Sea, and the U.S. pivot to the Asia-Pacific region, have provoked lingering tensions between China and the other claimants. The escalated tensions have the propensity to substantially negatively impact regional peace and stability. As such, there needs to be improved cross-disciplinary and cross-border dialogue over the issue, so that the current minor spats do not escalate into larger, regional, or even global, conflict.
Please join Asia Society for the first day of a two-day conference on the South China Sea territorial dispute. There will be four panel discussions with policy experts discussing various sources of tensions, and possibilities for resolution.
