Kyrgyzstan’s Political Transition and Its Role in the World
VIEW EVENT DETAILSRoza Otunbayeva is the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, a post she has held since July 2010. Following the Kyrgyz Republic’s independence in 1991, she served as the Ambassador to the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom, and on three occasions as Foreign Minister. A former member of the Kyrgyz parliament, she was honored with the U.S. Secretary of State's 2011 International Woman of Courage award.
President Otunbayeva will be joined in discussion with Reuters’ Senior Correspondent in Washington, D.C., and former Asia Society Bernard Schwartz Fellow Philip Shishkin. Shishkin has written extensively on democratization, human rights, and the influence of foreign investment in the Central Asian region.
