Create a beautiful Rangoli!
Rose Room, 8th floor
Rangoli is a decorative design made on the floor to signify sacred, welcoming areas for Hindu deities. Using found and recycled materials, children and their families will create this beautiful, traditional decorative folk art of India. Kimberly Carmody, founder of Urban River Arts, will facilitate the creation and dismantling of this interactive rangoli. Dismantling ceremony at 3:45.

Kathak Indian Dance with Parul Shah

Ganesh, the Hindu Elephant deity, is worshipped during Diwali. Dancer Parul Shah will perform an invocation to Lord Ganesh and his mother Parvati. Her performance will be followed by a lesson for children on how to depict Ganesh using their hands and bodies.

Art in the Galleries: Doodle drawings
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller Gallery, 3rd floor. Meet outside gallery on 3rd floor at 1:45pm
Let your imagination roam free by doodling! Rabindranath Tagore’s career as an artist started by transforming his doodles into paintings. Asia Society’s gallery guides will lead families through The Last Harvest: Paintings of Rabindranath Tagore, showing children how to reimagine doodles into forests, animals, people and more.

♦ Storytelling with Linda White: Learn the myths behind the Hindu deities!
♦ Make your own Diya! Workshop: During Diwali, people light small clay lamps called diyas to symbolize the light of knowledge and goodness.
♦ Temporary Tattoos! Come and get your elaborate henna tattoos on your hand, arms or even your feet!
