Annual Patron Meeting and Reception with New President Josette Sheeran
On June 5th, Asia Society Patrons gathered for their Annual Meeting and Reception, an evening of music and a look ahead at the upcoming season. Co-Chair of the Board, Henrietta H. Fore, gave a warm welcome to our Patrons and introduced them to the newest member of our Asia Society family, our new President, Josette Sheeran. A week before her actual start date, our President-to-be graciously shared some remarks on her background and her vision for Asia Society, a neutral and storied institution with the power to convene even the most disparate parties and build those increasingly crucial connections with Asia.
Patrons were then charmed by three young artists from the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, each playing a classical piece that showcased their remarkable skill and musicality. The young pianists were also complimented nicely and followed by renowned Iranian musician Mohsen Namjoo. His soulful voice and setar evoked deep emotions and dazzled the crowd. The artist also kindly participated in a Q&A with Asia Society’s Director of Cultural Programs and Performing Arts, Rachel Cooper, to further explore his music and powerful lyrics. We look forward to welcoming him back to Asia Society in September with the opening of our new exhibition, Iran Modern, which Melissa Chiu, Museum Director and Senior Vice President of Global Arts and Culture Programs, introduced to Patrons. The evening closed with a short preview of other projects on the horizon from Tom Nagorski, Executive Vice President, and everyone was invited to stay for a reception with Asia Society leaders.
We have so much to look forward to in the coming year and all of it is made possible in large part from support from our Patrons. Thank you.
