A Visual History of Modern Art
MUMBAI-- 12 February 2015 Asia Society India Center welcomed its art enthusiasts to ‘A Visual History of Modern Art’ highlights from the India Art Fair curated by The Delhi Art Gallery (DAG). The evening began with a discussion between Kishore Singh, head of exhibitions and publications, DAG and Abhay Sardesai, Editor of Art India.
The conversation began with Singh’s insights into how various dimensions encourage and help in the path of development of Indian Art which inspired them to curate this new show for the India Art Fair, that most recently took place in New Delhi. Sardesai shared his views and ideas on how modernism came into existence and how modernisation played a role as a catalyst to create culturally distinctive history and different types of arts and culture. The definition of modernism is constantly shifting and keeping this in mind, Sardesai brilliantly defined how the art and culture promotes unity and integrity.
The conversation was followed by various questions and a guided walk-through of the gallery displaying the works of M.F. Husain, F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, Krishen Khanna, Jamini Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, Rabin Mondal, Akbar Padamsee and Tyeb Mehta.
