'Growth with Financial Stability' by Rakesh Mohan

Gopalakrishnan, for a discussion of Mohan's new book, Growth with Financial Stability: Central Banking in an Emerging Market, which takes the unique perspective of a central banker-cum-academician. It provides a rare insider view into the development and workings of central banking and the financial sector in India.
Unravelling the key to India's macroeconomic and financial stability in a highly volatile globalised world, the volume explores five broad topics. These include: the Indian economic growth experience since Independence and the role of fiscal and monetary policies in the growth process, the role of the financial sector in fostering overall growth, the functioning of monetary policy, with a focus on managing the impossible trinity, and the critical reforms needed for maintaining and accelerating growth.
Rakesh Mohan is Professor in the Practice of International Economics and Finance, School of Management and Senior Fellow, Jackson Institute of Global Affairs, Yale University. Prior to this, Mohan was Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India and Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
Duvvuri Subbarao is current Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Subbarao has also worked as the Finance Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India, lead Economist in the World Bank and a member of the Prime Ministers Economic Advisory Council.
Y. Venugopal Reddy is former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Before assuming this position in 2003, Reddy was Deputy Governor of the RBI, Indias Executive Director on the Board of the International Monetary Fund, Chairman of the Bank of International Settlements, Asian Consultative Council as well as Chairperson of SAARCFINANCE (a Group of Governors of the central banks of SAARC member countries).
Uday Kotak is the Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Kotak Mahindra Bank, and its principal founder and promoter. Started in 1985, the Kotak Mahindra Group has grown into several areas like stockbrokering and investment banking to car finance, life insurance and mutual funds. Kotak is an alumnus of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.
R. Gopalakrishnan is Executive Director of Tata Sons. Prior to this appointment in 1998, Gopalakrishnan worked for Hindustan Lever. Currently he is chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems, Rallis India and Advinus Therapeutics. In addition, Gopalakrishnan is vice chairman of Tata Chemicals, and a director of Tata Power and Tata Technologies. He is an independent director on the boards of the Indian subsidiaries of Akzo Nobel and BP Castrol.
