MUMBAI, 10 February 2015 — In his first visit to Mumbai since his appointment Ambassador Richard Verma, U.S. Ambassador to India, conducted an enlightening conversation about the future of the India-U.S. relationship on the Asia Society platform with Pramit Jhaveri, CEO of Citi India.
Ambassador Verma began the evening by highlighting his Indian roots and the unique perspective they give him as US Ambassador to India. Primed to unlock the true potential of the Indo-US relationship, Ambassador Verma said the two countries are witnessing “a new moment, a dawn of a new era” in bilateral relations. Fortified by shared democratic values, the two nations would work toward shared prosperity, inclusion and a shared regional vision.
Stressing on this commitment to joint prosperity within the international framework, Ambassador Verma underlined that this would be a central focus for commercial and trade relationships between nations. Jhaveri asked the Ambassador many questions which gave him the chance to emphasise the rare chemistry between leaders of both nations and the future of the Indo-US relationship.
Ambassador Verma was also able to highlight the rising prominence of Asia as he said “we recognize that with more than two-thirds of the world’s humanity, Asia is and will be the center of gravity for a long time to come. It’s important, therefore, to simultaneously focus on a strategic regional convergence of our shared democratic values.”
