Israel is home to thousands of startups. With more engineers per capita than elsewhere in the world, Tel Aviv competes with other global tech hubs, such as Moscow, London, New York and Berlin to become the "new" Silicon Valley. Israel has more companies on NASDAQ than any country outside the US, and more than Europe and India combined, as documented in the eponymous book "Startup Nation". The Mayor of Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai will outline what makes the city a natural hub of innovation, what distinguishes Tel Aviv from other global tech hubs, who supports and finances this entrepreneurial spirit and aspirations for the city.
Ron Huldai was re-elected Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo for a fourth consecutive five-year term in 2013. He joined the Israeli Air Force in 1963 and served as a combat pilot for 26 years, including during the Six Day and Yom Kippur Wars. He retired from the Israeli Air Force with the rank of Brigadier General. After his military service, Mayor Huldai became Principal of the renowned Gymnasia Herzlyia, transforming a much-deteriorated high school into a showcase of educational and organizational excellence. Mayor Huldai is a distinguished graduate of the United States Air Force’s American Air War College and holds a Bachelor of General Studies from Auburn University of Montgomery.
