How does China strike a balance between traditional economic and security concerns and the broader imperatives it must now satisfy? China’s Former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, He Yafei, will discuss Beijing’s role in global governance and the challenges it faces.
He Yafei is Vice Minister of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. He previously served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr. He has also served as Counsellor of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Deputy Director General of the Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Counsellor and Minister of the Embassy of China in the United States, Representative and Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva. Mr. He graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University, and later studied at the Geneva Institute of International Relations.
