As the editorial cartoonist for The Economist since 1978, Kevin "KAL" Kallaugher has delighted readers with his lively style and unique satirical take on global events and personalities. In an illustrated presentation, he will share stories and insights into the world of cartoons, caricature and satire. KAL will sketch some of his favorite politicians from over the years and even teach the audience how to draw Barack Obama. KAL will also address what he considers to be the interesting and exciting future of editorial cartooning in the challenging new digital landscape. In a distinguished career spanning three decades, he has created over 8,000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers.
KAL is currently the Artist-in-Residence at University of Maryland Baltimore County, and has five collections of his published work. The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons said of KAL, "Commanding a masterful style, Kallaugher stands among the premier caricaturists of the (20th) century." His work has been widely exhibited including at the Tate Gallery in London and the Library of Congress in Washington, with exhibitions in the US, UK, South Korea, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Romania.
