In Case You Missed It: LGBT Pride at Asia Society
20 March 2015, New York— Accompanied by the unexpected snow on the first day of spring, Asia Society’s LGBT Leo Bar Night once again attracted more than 250 attendees to Asia Society on a chilly Friday night. Every third Friday of the month Asia Society partners with its corporate members and nonprofit outreach organizations dedicated to promoting equality for the LGBT community. Last Friday, Asia Society co-hosted the event with the Financial Services Industry Exchange (FSIX). FSIX is a non-profit organization that aims to foster a friendly environment for LGBT members in the financial services industry. “Now in its twelfth year, Asia Society's LGBT Leo Bar is still going strong! Not even last Friday's snow storm prevented the 252 participants from joining the festivities,” says David Whitelaw Reid, Director of Global Talent Initiatives at Asia Society. David created these third Friday nights as a way for the LGBT community to regularly come together in one of New York City's most elegant cultural destinations.
With free admission and docent-led tours to the latest art exhibition Buddhist Art of Myanmar, many attendees take the opportunity to network with new people over drinks and art. Michael, a returning LGBT Leo Bar attendee, shared his thoughts that, “I quite enjoy it; I love the fact that you get to mingle with people, and there is a cultural aspect to it.” Another attendee shared that this was a, “Great event for us [the LGBT community] to network. I am glad I came because everyone here is so chill.” Another happy guest concluded the event in six words, “Good drinks. Good crowd. Good time."
