Students at DCIS must successfully complete five areas of focus to receive a Diploma of International Studie, including global studies, foreign language, community service, special international projects and core classes. High school students are required to complete three “Passages” – challenging, hands-on research protects that evolve from students’ interests. DCIS students also have the opportunity to become fluent in one of five world languages; (Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese and Spanish); travel abroad to practice language skills and experience different cultures; and learn together with students of different cultures and from different countries, building acceptance, empathy and friendships across socioeconomic, racial and ethnic lines. DCIS prepares students for college by developing their skills in leadership, critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving. The school expects its graduates to be global leaders and prepares them for this important work by giving them the skills, knowledge and cultural awareness they need to make an indelible mark on our world.
