US - India Civilian Nuclear Cooperation
VIEW EVENT DETAILSOn October 1st 2008, the United States Congress approved the U.S.-India civilian nuclear cooperation agreement. The landmark deal ended America's 34-year old ban on nuclear trade with India. However, more than a year since the agreement, there are still a number of things that have to be done before U.S. companies can become involved in nuclear activities in India.
Today's distinguished panelists include:
The Honorable Evan Feigenbaum, senior fellow for East, Central, and South Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2008, he co-chaired the coordinating team charged with moving the civilian nuclear agreement through the IAEA Board of Governors and the Nuclear Suppliers Group, and then to the Congress.
Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan, who retired from the highest level in the Indian Foreign Service in 2004, is a member of the Board of Directors of the India-US World Affairs Institute. He is currently the Executive Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency's IAEA 2020 Project. He is also a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), New Delhi.
Dr. Shailesh R. Sheth, Vice President of Global Marketing for New Nuclear Plants at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH). In his current role, Shailesh is responsible for the planning and implementation of GEH's New Plants business and marketing strategies globally.
Ms. Meena Mutyala, Vice President, Global Growth and Business Leader for India, Westinghouse. She is responsible for strategies to pursue commercial nuclear power opportunities in India and is also a key member of the team to lead the growth of Westinghouse in the global nuclear energy industry.
This event is co-hosted with the U.S.-India World Affairs Institute.
