Movie Screening: The Cove
VIEW EVENT DETAILSRecently awarded an Oscar for Best Documentary, The Cove is a piece of investigative journalism with the heart of an action thriller. It follows former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry to document the dolphin hunting operations in Taiji, Wakayama, Japan. In the 1960s, O'Barry captured and trained the five wild dolphins who would play the role of "Flipper" in the same-name hit television series. However, he later discovered a secret in a secluded cove where thousands of dolphins are lured to and hunted for meat and underhanded dealing to the entertainment industry. O'Barry joins forces with filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and the Oceanic Preservation Society to get to the truth of what happens in the cove and why it matters to the world.
