Photo of the Day: Shishi Odoshi, or 'Scare the Deer'
The teahouse at the Royal Park Hotel in Tokyo, Japan on April 23, 2010. In this traditional Japanese water fountain, a certain amount of water drops to the cylinder, causing it to incline and pour the water into a saucer. The ensuing sound is intended to startle any deer who might happen to be grazing on the plants in the garden. The empty cylinder swings back into its original position, where it can eventually refill. (Larry Thompson)
