The Asia21 Young Leaders SummitThe Summit brings together some 200 of the most dynamic next generation leaders from the Asia-Pacific and the US to explore imaginative ways to address the most critical issues facing the Asia-Pacific community today, develop common approaches to addressing these shared challenges, and cultivate the long-term relationships necessary for developing responses. Cross-sectoral and cross-national engagement is the hallmark of the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit, with leading figures from across the fields of business, politics, civil-society, media, arts and culture, and academia. Participants attend a variety of keynote speeches, plenary sessions, and breakout sessions, in an effort to develop new ideas for building a stronger Asia-Pacific community. Following the meeting, delegates continue to be engaged through a dedicated webspace, local Asia 21 chapters, a bi-monthly newsletter, and coordinated public service projects. Though this is an invitation-only event, nominations are welcome of exceptional leaders in any field, 40 and under years old, with excellent English skills. Please contact Azadeh Fartash for more information. The first Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit was held in Seoul, South Korea, November 17-19, 2006. At the Summit in Seoul, delegates engaged in an intensive series of dialogues and events, began developing joint projects that are currently being carried out, experienced multiple cultural performances, sang karaoke together, and laid the foundation for cross-sectoral and transnational collaboration that is ongoing and expected to last a lifetime. Delegates from the Seoul Summit called the experience an "unbelievable opportunity to meet and work with inspiring peers" that "inspires a new generation to connect with one another" and began a process that will "feel the ripples of this time together for years to come." Building on the previous year's success, the 2007 Summit, held in Singapore from October 5-7, assembled a larger number of participants who engaged in plenary and small group discussions on how to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth in the region, and later paired up on public service projects that encouraged collaboration across sectors and even across countries. One delegate called it a "life-changing experience that will shape [his] view of the world and the future of the Asia Pacific." Now on its third year, the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit continues to build on the momentum generated by the huge success of the first two conferences. The 2008 Tokyo Summit, which will run from November 14 to 16, will focus on the theme "Challenges Beyond Borders, Solutions Beyond Cultures."
