Wang Guowei (Zhonghu) is Artistic Director and erhu soloist of Music From China. He was formerly soloist and concertmaster of the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra, graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory, winner of national music competitions in China, music essayist, and music producer on Shanghai East Radio. Wang Guowei has toured Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Belgium, Canada, Australia and the U.S. He has been featured soloist with the Virginia Symphony conducted by JoAnn Falletta, Ethos Percussion Group, Four Nations Ensemble, Norfolk Chamber Consort, and Peabody Camerata, among others. Wang Guowei has also performed with legendary jazz artist Ornette Coleman in his "Global Expressions" concert at London's Barbican Center and with Yo-Yo Ma at the Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art. As a composer, Wang Guowei has received commissions from the Australian Ministry of Culture, Ethos Percussion Group, Music From China (funded by American Composers Forum), and the New York Philharmonic ensembles series.
