Diana Liao (Libretto English translation) born in Hong Kong of parents who came from Hubei Province, China, is currently the chief of the interpretation service at the United Nations. She majored in comparative literature at the University of Hong Kong and journalism at the University of Paris, where she also worked as a reporter for "Le Monde." In 1972 she started her career as a simultaneous interpreter at the United Nations, working in Chinese, English and French. She is also proficient in Spanish and Russian. She loves writing and literary translation. Her works of translation include poems, essays and plays, among which are the opera "Tea" (written by Xu Ying and Tan Dun, music composed by Lam Bunching), and "Sun Wu the Supreme Military Strategist" (written by Xu Ying). She has also written the libretto for the opera "Poet Li Bai" (co-written with Xu Ying, music composed by Chen Yi).
