Following sold-out performances two years ago, Asia Society is delighted to welcome back the critically acclaimed and popular Kinsmen/Svajanam for a much-anticipated US tour. Two masters of the alto saxophone (above left)—Kadri Gopalnath, a living legend of South Indian Carnatic music, and Rudresh Mahanthappa, a fiercely innovative Indian American jazz musician—present a cross-cultural, intergenerational collaborative suite commissioned by the Asia Society. Together, they fuse a myriad of traditional and contemporary influences to create a ground-breaking artistic vision. The two are joined by their co-led Dakshina Ensemble (above right) with A. Kanyakumari (violin), Rez Abbasi (guitar/sitar-guitar), Carlo de Rosa (bass), Poovalur Srinivasan (mridangam-barrel drum), and Royal Hartigan (drum-set).
