This illustration is by the artist Muhammad Nadir. He was originally from Samarqand but settled in Kashmir after being charmed by its arcadian beauty. The image depicts a meeting between the lovers Yusuf and Zuleikha. It was originally included in a manuscript of the Persian love epic Yusuf and Zuleikha, which was executed in 1650. In his paintings, Nadir generally remained faithful to the romantic, non-naturalistic Samarqandi style seen in this image.
