Sri Pratap Singh Museum, Srinagar, MC 2421/6
This limestone sculpture has never been on display outside of Srinagar, but it is one of the largest and most compelling examples from seventh-century Kashmir. Indrani is the consort of the powerful deity Indra. He is usually identified by his pronged thunderbolt or vajra and by his animal vehicle, the elephant. In this limestone piece, you can see Indrani holding the double headed vajra in her left hand and an elephant behind her. |
